Engelberg
The differences couldn’t be bigger: once withdraw cloistral village – today modern winter sports centre. Engelberg is located in the centre of the Swiss High Alps and surrounded by majestic mountains.
The imposing Mount Titlis is the principal magnet of the ski resort. One can well imagine that monks beard a charmed life in the former cloistral village, surrounded by several 3,000-metre peaks with densely wooded hillsides.
The monastery was founded in 1120 by the Benedictine order. Life was very calm there and the cloistral buildings are still inhabited. In addition to the historical centre of town, today even big hotel grounds form the view of the village, because Engelberg is an internationally renowned winter sports centre with two skiing areas. Above all the glacial area on the Mount Titlis accounts for the success of the region and keeps ready many sporting challenges.
