Arosa
The climatic spa Arosa at the top of the valley, on 1700 metres above sea level, is a quiet and untroubled village. Off the beaten tracks, tourists can enjoy the winter idyll in the sunny high valley.
Skiers appreciate the tight connections between the varied slopes around the mountains Weisshorn, Hörnli and Brüggerhorn.
The nine to 13-metre-high steel and glass building is visible even from afar. It channels the daylight into the interior of the mountain, to the spa centre Botta Berg of the Grandhotel Tschuggen, which was already founded in 1883. Under its former name "Berghilf" it was a sanatorium for pulmonary patients. Until the 20th Century Arosa was a well-known spa resort for people with lung disease.
Skiers and winter sportsmen discovered the attractive high valley later. The old sanatoriums and spa hotels gave way to noble hotels, which today dominate the view of the village. Many hotels offer extraordinary health centres and spa areas, which can be visited also by non-hotel guests – however, a prior reservation is required.
Arosa offers all advantages of a scenic winter sports area: surrounded by wooded hillsides, dominated by an impressive mountain range, for example Hörnli, Weisshorn, Brüggerhorn. Here, skiers and boarders take much pleasure, as well as cross-country skiers, hikers and sunbathers.
