Snow Helmet duty – Will snow helmets become a duty everywhere?
In Italy, helmet duty on ski slopes has prevailed since some years. In
fact for children and teenagers till 14 years. Also in other
Alp-regions the persons in charge has already thought to dictate skiers
to wear a snow helmet on the slopes. But it is proven, that snow
helmets protect against heavy head injuries.
Recently the media often report on crashes on crowded slopes. Only a few skiers know about the FIS-Rules or even conform to them, crashes – unfortunately – are order of the day. But beside the individual responsibility a protection is necessary, too. Especially for children.
If it’ll be possible to constrain adults to wear a snow helmet, is
much disputed. But everybody has to know by himself, what his head is
worth.
Today snow helmets are available in every possible colors and forms,
but you should pay attention to the sticker EN 1077 safety standard.
