Security on the slopesfis.jpg

Fast skis invite to ski fast, wide slopes to make speedy turns. But regrettably you’re not alone on the slopes and you have to pay attention to other skiers or snowboarders.

At the weekends and during the high season there is a big hustle and bustle on the slopes. There are ski instructors with 10 kiddies in attachment, good skiers who are skiing speedy lines and in the middle there is the husband who shows his wife in a dubious way how to ski. To make sure that in this crush will not happen injuries happen you have to follow some rules.

The 10 FIS Rules:

  1. Respect
Skiers and snowboarders should not endanger, damage or constrain others.
  2. Speed
Every sportsman has to know, what he or she is able to. Because of that everyone has to level the speed and the driving manner and to fit it with the slope-, snow- and weather conditions. Defensive driving is a must.
  3. Choice of route
The route has to be chosen in that way that nobody could get endangered.
  4. Overtaking
A skier or snowboarder may overtake others above or below and to the right or to the left provided that he leaves enough space for the overtaken one to make any voluntary or involuntary movement.
  5. Entering, starting and moving upwards
Someone entering a marked run, starting again after stopping or moving upwards on the slopes must look up and down the slopes.
  6. Stopping on the slopes
A skier or snowboarder has to avoid stopping on the slope in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. After a fall in such a place you must move further as soon as possible.
  7. Climbing and descending on foot
A skier or snowboarder either climbing or descending on foot has to stay at the side of the slope.
  8. Signs and markings
A skier or snowboarder must respect all signs and markings.
  9. Assistance
At accidents, every skier or snowboarder is duty bound to assist
  10. Identification
Every skier or snowboarder has to take with him or her a passport or identification card.
