Val Gardena
Almost all what a tourist’s heart may desire, can be found in Val Gardena or more precisely in the holiday destinations
Wolkenstein,
St. Christina and
St. Ulrich. From every village at the valley bottom you can reach very rewarding ski areas. In each of them you will have
great panoramic views over the
Dolomites and you will enjoy fantastic and well-prepared slopes. And you shouldn’t forget: from Val Gardena you have access to the mythic "Sella Rond" ski tour.
Side note: in Val Gardena people speak Ladin. The ancient Rhaeto-Romanic language is spoken only in Val Gardena, in Alta Badia and in Val di Fassa. Butdon’t worry: the locals speak Italian, German and English, too.
Skiing around Wolkenstein
Around Wolkenstein there are many ski resorts with both challenging and easy slopes. And whoever is looking for some adventures besides the slopes, there are a lot of opportunities for snow-shoe-hikers, too.
Ski holidays in St. Christina and St. Ulrich
Also St. Christina and St. Ulrich offer some great ski resorts, reachable directly from the villages. St. Ulrich is the cultural center of Val Gardena. It is Luis Trenker’s home: he was a famous mountaineer and film-maker. In the local museum you will get more information about him and his life and the history of Val Gardena.
The ski resorts in the valley are renowned and offer something for everybody, beginners as well as experienced skiers. For experienced people, who like alpine touring, there is the Langkofelscharte in the Dolomites, one of the most exciting, and dangerous alpine challenges. But also the Dantercëpies descent to Wolkenstein and the ski runs from Ciampinoi are pretty demanding.
For an all-day ski tour we recommend the "Sella Ronda" ski-tour. The tour is medium difficult and includes four Dolomites mountain passes around the Sella Massif.
