Brixen, Meransen, Vals - Plose, Gitschberg, Valley Joch
Mt. Plose and its surroundings are a rewarding winter sports area above the city of Brixen. The city was founded in 901 A.D. and is even today a diocesan town.
Brixen and Mt. Plose are situated close to the A22 high way. This fact in addition to the challenging slopes and the numerous mountain restaurants with their sunny terraces are the main reasons for spending some days in the snow- covered Plose area.
Christmas Markets in Brixen
In Brixen's Christmas Market, from 30th November 2008 to 06th January 2009, you can enjoy delicious local specialties, admire the picturesque old town, the crib of more than 800 years, waiting for Christmas between the snowy landscape.
Mt. Plose: The panoramic ski mountain
Nowadays there is nothing left to wish for, as the 2465 m high Mt. Plose can be reached by ski lifts. From the summit of Mt. Plose you have a breathtaking view over the Dolomites nearby: you can see the Sella Massif, the Langkofel, the great Geisler mountain range and, last but not least, you have a marvelous view of the Eisacktal Valley and Brixen.
Sunny Gitschberg area
On the sunny high plateau of Meransen, just a few kilometers north-east of the entrance to the Pustertal Valley, you come to the small but very rewarding ski resort Gitschberg. Here you will not find hustle and bustle but pure winter idyll, great mountain views and very good, traditional gastronomy.
Jochtal Valley: ski holidays offside the bustle
Jochtal Valley can also be reached from Meransen. The small ski resort is very calm and extremely family-friendly: every year the local ski school builds a nice kids-park and takes care of your little ones, while you explore the few but rewarding slopes.
Most of the hotels and boarding houses are situated very close to the ski runs: another advantage of the Jochtal Valley.
