Sestrière and the "Milky Way"-the Via Lattea.
On the French-Italian border Sestrière offers as linchpin at the huge ski resort of the "Via Lattea - The Milky Way", a galactic ski fun resort for everyone.
The extensive skiing resort arises with its 400 kilometers of very well prepared slopes between Sauze d'Oulx and the French Montgenèvre and guarantees absolute fun and no time for boredom.
Sestrière looks back at a tradition steeped past in the international ski tourism. In 1921 the first hostel opened, and from 1930 on the Fiat Boss Giovanni Agnelli helped to establish a modern ski resort. Today two striking hotel towers form the landmark of the place. The place and the skiing resort were planned from beginning on most exactly; Sestrière is therefore the first "retort ski resort" of the Alps.
After the successful realization of the Ski World Championships in 1997 the time had come for an even bigger event: In 2006 the Alpine Ski Winter Olympics were held in Sestrière near Torino.
