Piedmont – "Skiing with heart"
In 2006 the Winter Olympics were held all around Torino in Piedmont. No wonder, with 53 skiing areas, 1300 km of slopes and 100 cross-country skiing kilometers in this unique mountain world in north western Italy, Piemont is almost custom-made for winter sports.
One can convince himself best of all this, during a ski vacation in Piemont. Especially recommendable skiing resorts are Sestriere , Limone, Piemonte and Via Lattea, the "Milky Way". Sestrière is maybe the biggest and best equipped skiing resort in the Piedmont: numerous Ski World Cup races were already held here.
The slopes are of medium difficulty level to pretty demanding. Over the mountain you’ll be able to go to the Sauze d'Oulx and Sansicario where there are lots of slopes to choose from. If you take also in account Cesana and Claviere, one can go ski like at the Sella Ronda, in 5 skiing resorts of the "Via Lattea-The Milky Way ".
Snowboardes also feel fine in the many snow parks in Piedmont: the best example of it is the park in the skiing resort Prato Nevoso.
The cross-country trails were after Olympia also available. Very well prepared and with additional artificial snow equipped are the slopes open until spring and are among the best in Italy.
